ITV’s commentary crew in Germany this summer will include Pien Meulensteen, daughter of former right-hand man Rene who worked under legendary Sir Alex Ferguson.

Her father, legendary coach Rene Meulensteen, has left her with a lifelong love of football. Between 2001 and 2006, Rene worked as the reserve team manager at Manchester United during his first of two stints as a coach. 

Later, in 2008, he was named Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant manager, a position he held until 2013.

During that time, he led the Red Devils to their eighth major trophy which included four Premier League titles and one Champions League.  

Following his departure from the team, he attempted his hand at management, serving as interim managers of Anzhi Makhachkal, Maccabi Haifa, and Fulham.

Who is Pien Meulensteen?

Age 27 Pien Meulensteen is a Dutch-born British-based journalist who was born in January 1997. She is the daughter of Sir Alex Ferguson’s right-hand man Rene. She earned a first-class honours degree in broadcast journalism from Salford University. 

She is single and unmarried.

As a presenter and analyst, she has covered the Women’s Super League, the Premier League, the FIFA World Cup, and the FIFA Women’s World Cup.  

When she was named the 2023 Sports Journalism Awards’ “One to Watch” last year, it was a testament to her extraordinary climb.

The journalist, who was born in the Netherlands, has experience behind the microphone having worked for the Premier League, DAZN, Amazon Prime, and Sky Sports. She is proficient in both Dutch and English, having grown up in England with Dutch parents.

Because of her talent, she has previously worked for the Dutch network Ziggo Sport.
