Thomas Ceccon is an Italian swimmer who was born on January 27, 2001 in Thiene, Italy. He is currently 23 years old and holds a world record in the long course 100 metre backstroke and the short course 4×100 metre freestyle relay. He also holds the Italian record in the long course 50 metre backstroke and 50 metre butterfly. Thomas is nicknamed as “The Shark” for his speed in the water and his staggering height. Thomas will swim again in the Men’s 200m Backstroke event at the Paris La Defense Arena on Wednesday (July 31) at 11:21 CET.

Career and achievements
Thomas gained prominences after winning the 50 m free style Youth Olympic title along with 4 other medals at 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires. He also won two gold medals at the FINA World Junior Swimming Championships the following year. He then won a silver medal in the 4×100 metre freestyle relay at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Thomas Ceccon then won a bronze medal in the 4×100 metre freestyle relay at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships, in Budapest. Just one day later, he won the gold medal in the 100-metre backstroke with a world record time of 51.60 seconds. Just a few months later, he won the gold medal in the 100-metre individual medley 2022 FINA Swimming World Cup in Berlin.
The following year, he continued his winning form as he won a gold at the 2023 Italian National Spring Championships in Riccione with a time of 24.93 seconds. He won another gold in the 100-metre backstroke at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships. He then won in the 100-metre freestyle at the 2023 Mare Nostrum in Barcelona, Spain.
