The 25-year-old boxer is one of the two athletes who cleared to compete in womenโs boxing at Paris Olympics despite being disqualified from the Womenโs World championship 2023 for not meeting eligibility criteria.

After accepting the defeat within a minute in the bout, Angela Carini, was visibly emotional as she can be seen crying in the ring. The womenโs welterweight match ended early when Khelif landed two clean blows to Cariniโs head.

The hits appeared to loosen Cariniโs chin strap, prompting her to abandon the match with in just 46 seconds on the clock. Holding her nose, Carini cried in the ring after taking two heavy blows to the face.
Footage of the incident has taken over the social media platforms especially X/Twitter, as boxing enthusiasts noted Cariniโs tears and her admission that she had never been hit so hard before.
Cariniโs emotional reaction stemmed from her desire to honor her father, as she considered herself a warrior but had to stop the fight. Shortly after the match, her coach expressed uncertainty about the extent of her injuries.
Angela Carini who was born in Naples, Italy lost her father just after her bout in Tokyo and had come to honour his memory at the Paris Olympics.

The bout, Imane Khelif vs Angela Carini, has intensified serious debate among boxing fans as they question why Khelif was allowed to compete despite questions about her eligibility.

Meanwhile, many are asking questions to IOC to explain Imane Khelifโs eligibility to compete in the bout as previously she was from a gold-medal bout in Delhi by the International Boxing Association due to elevated testosterone levels.
About Imane Khelif
For the unfamiliar, Imane Khelif, is an Algerian amateur boxer who came to the light after competing in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
She first participated in the New Delhi 2018 AIBA Womenโs World Boxing Championships, ranking 17th, and the 2019 AIBA Womenโs World Boxing Championships in Russia, where she ranked 33rd.
At the Tokyo Olympics 2020, she was defeated by Irelandโs Kellie Harrington in the lightweight quarterfinals. In the IBA Womenโs World Boxing Championships 2022, Khelif became the first Algerian female boxer to reach the final, ultimately losing to Irelandโs Amy Broadhurst.
Though there was controversy regarding her eligibility to participate in the competition, the IOC cleared Khelif to compete in the Paris Olympics 2024, confirming her compliance with all eligibility and medical regulations.
