On Tuesday, the Telangana government changed the current police officials to four zones and nominated new commissioners. After the implementation of reorganization, the heads of the police in Hyderabad—Hyderabad City, Rachakonda, and Cyberabad—took over their roles as their respective commissioners within the city on Wednesday.
Hyderabad’s Police Commissioner position has been given to Kothakota Sreenivasa Reddy. Kothakota, an experienced member of the 1994 IPS class, replaced departing officer Sandeep Shandilya as the city commissioner of Hyderabad.
On October 13, Shandilya took up the position as per the orders of the Election Commission of India, in the midst of a pivotal stage of the State Assembly elections. He is going to be the next head of the Telangana State Anti-Drug Bureau.

Who is Kothakota Sreenivasa Reddy?
Kothakota Sreenivasa Reddy is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. He has been in the news because he was recently appointed as the new commissioner of Telangana.
He was born and brought up in Telangana. After completing his schooling, he graduated with a mass communication and journalism degree. Later, he studied law and eventually got his LLB degree.
Kothakota Sreenivasa Reddy is currently 58 years old and was born on 5 May, 1965. Kothakota Srinivas Reddy was born in Khammam, Andhra Pradesh and his father was a farmer.
Kothakota Srinivas Reddy is married to Dr. K. Sujatha and she is a gynecologist and obstetrician. The couple has two children – a son named K. Sai Krishna, who works as an engineer in a multinational company in Hyderabad, and a daughter named K Sai Priya, who is a medical student studying in a reputed college in Hyderabad.
His career
Kothakota Sreenivasa Reddy is a 1994-batch IPS officer. Sreenivasa Reddy began his career as an assistant superintendent of police at Bodhan, Nizamabad, and is a part of the 1994 IPS officer cadre. After rising through the ranks to assume several important roles, he most famously commanded the Andhra Pradesh Special Police Battalion and was Hyderabad’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic).
Prior to taking on the position of Additional DG (Organisation & Legal), he also oversaw the leadership of specialist units such as OCTOPUS and the Greyhounds throughout his tenure.
In recognition of his outstanding accomplishments, Kothakota Sreenivasa Reddy was awarded the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2019 after receiving the Indian Police Medal for meritorious service in 2010. Notably, he was awarded the Ati-Utkrisht Seva Padak in 2023, which further acknowledged his exceptional dedication and devotion.
