An accomplished senior IPS officer named Ravi Sinha has been named the next head of India’s famed external intelligence organization, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). According to a formal order, he will succeed Samant Kumar Goel, whose four-year term ends on June 30.

Sinha, an IPS member from the Chhattisgarh cadre and a member of the 1988 batch, is currently the Special Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat. According to the Ministry of Personnel’s directive, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved Sinha’s appointment as the Secretary of RAW for a two-year term.
Ravi Sinha takes on the duties of his predecessor, Samant Kumar Goel, at a time when certain nations are promoting Sikh fundamentalism. Goel, a specialist in Jammu and Kashmir issues, was crucial in planning the surgical attack that was carried out in February 2019 on a terrorist training camp in Balakot, Pakistan.
It is worth mentioning that Goel’s tenure as the RAW chief began in June 2019 and was subsequently extended twice, first in 2021 and then in June 2022, highlighting his contributions and leadership in the organization.

Sinha is a 1988-batch Chhattisgarh-cadre IPS officer and the formal designation of the RAW chief is Secretary, Research and Analysis Wing (Secretar-R) in the Cabinet Secretariat.
Sinha has worked in Jammu and Kashmir, Northeast India, and Left Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected areas at various points in his career and the term LWE is the official phrase for Maoist/Naxalite elements largely active in Central India.
He has worked for the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) for more than 20 years, and he is currently the second-in-command of the company. He was overseeing the operations wing before getting elevated.
