With over thirty years of experience, Rahul Rasgotra is an experienced Intelligence Bureau official from the Manipur cadre, having joined in 1989. Rahul Rasgotra is an Indian IPS officer. He has been in the news because he was recently appointed as the Director General of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
He was born in 1964 in the Maharashtra state of India. His mother is a doctor, while his father is an IAS officer. He has two brothers who also worked as IAS officers.
After completing his schooling at St. Xavier’s High School, Rahul Rasgotra got his BA in history from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. Later, he attended JNU, where he did an MA in international studies. Furthermore, he also got a diploma in public administration from Harvard University, USA.
He is married, and his wife is a professor of sociology at the University of Mumbai. The couple also has two children: a son who is a lawyer and a daughter who is a journalist.
He is currently 59 years old.
His career
Rahul Rasgotra is an IPS officer of the Manipur cadre, having joined in 1989. After managing significant desks for almost thirty years in the Intelligence Bureau, he was named Director General of the ITBP.
Before taking on senior responsibilities at the ITBP, he held significant positions in the country’s top internal security agency, the Intelligence Bureau (IB). As he advanced to the rank of Special Director in the IB, he took on responsibilities for foreign intelligence, internal security, and counterterrorism.
