After Trudeau’s accusations, the Canadian government took the unusual action of removing Pavan Kumar Rai, a senior Indian diplomat who was in charge of the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW), India’s intelligence service, in Canada.

The expulsion took place as part of a probe into what Canadian authorities considered to be “credible allegations” about possible linkages between the Indian government and Nijjar’s death. However, India vehemently refuted these allegations, characterizing them as ‘absurd and motivated.’
