Former Tamil Nadu Special DGP Rajesh Das convicted for sexually harassing woman IPS officer
The Villupuram District court in Tamil Nadu has convicted the state’s former Special Director-General of police Rajesh Das. The court has sentenced Das to 3 years imprisonment for s*xually harassing a woman IPS officer while traveling on duty. He was also fined a sum of ₹10,000. The court in Tamil Nadu also imposed a fine of ₹500 on a male police officer who allegedly tried to stop the complaint from being filed.
Initial charges against Rajesh Das
Back in 2021, the then 57-year-old Rajesh Das was accused and suspended on grounds of s*xual harassment charges. He was accused of harassing a female Indian police officer who filed a complaint against him in February 2021. The victim accused Das of making advances towards her when they both were traveling on duty in the state’s central districts.
The whole incident occurred when All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Edappadi Palaniswami was serving as the CM of the state. Following the complaint, the state set up a 6-member committee to conduct a probe, and replaced him with Jayanth Murali.

Rajesh Das is an Indian Civil Service Officer from Odisha State who previously served in Tamil Nadu. He was born in 1964, in Odisha and he is currently 59 years old. Prior to his arrest in February 2021, Rajesh was working as the Special Director-General (Law & Order) in Tamil Nadu Police.
In 2021, he was accused of se*ually harassing a woman IPS officer. Therefore, a case of sexual harassment has been registered against him, and an inquiry committee has been formed headed by Superintendent Mutharasi of Tamil Nadu CB-CIT.
