A directive from the Personnel Ministry named senior IPS officer Nalin Prabhat as the head of the National Security Guard (NSG), the nation’s counterterrorism unit. According to the order, his appointment as the Director General of the NSG has been authorised by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for a term ending on August 31, 2028 which is his superannuation date.

The National Security Guard (NSG), also referred to as the “black cats,” was established in 1984. Daljit Singh Chawdhary, the head of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), had the added responsibility of the NSG prior to Nalin Prabhat.
Nalin Prabhat worked for the CRPF for about 17 years. He held a number of positions including deputy inspector general and inspector general. Additionally, he served as a commandant for three years, till 2006, with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
One of the duties of the ITBP is to protect the borders with Tibet and Bhutan. He oversaw law and order in three districts namely Karimnagar, Cuddapa, and Warangal during his time in Andhra Pradesh. In July 2004, he moved to central government to serve as the deputy director-general of the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF).
Age 55 Nalin is a 1992 Andra Pradesh batch IPS officer and a graduate of the University of Delhi’s St. Stephen’s College.

Additionally, Sapna Tewari’s nomination as the Special Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) has been accepted by the ACC. Tewari, an Odisha cadre IPS officer from the 1992 batch is currently employed with the IB as an Additional Director.
According to the order, she has been named the Special Director, IB, with a two-year term from the date she takes over the position to the date of her superannuation, which is April 30, 2026.
