IPS officer Arun Kumar Sinha, the Director of the Special Protection Group (SPG), passed away on Wednesday in Gurugram, bringing to an end an illustrious career that saw him lead state police modernization initiatives and launch several initiatives to improve traffic management and women’s safety.

An official statement claimed that the 61-year-old cop had been unwell for a while. Pinarayi Vijayan, the chief minister of Kerala, sent his sympathies on his demise and praised his effectiveness in handling the many duties he had in the state police.
The leader of the opposition, V. D. Satheesan, also praised IPS officer Arun Kumar Sinha for his outstanding management of important duties and his contributions to upholding peace and order.

IPS officer Arun Kumar Sinha was an Indian police officer. He has been in the news because he passed away on Wednesday in Gurugram at the age of 61.
He was a native of Hazaribagh, Jharkhand. Sinha was an IPS officer from Kerala’s 1987 bath cadre.
At the time of his death, he was just 61 years old.

His career
In 1989, IPS officer Arun Kumar Sinha started his police career in Kerala’s Wayanad in Mananthavady as an assistant superintendent of police. Subsequently, he served as the district’s police superintendent. From 1997 until almost 2004, Sinha was the commissioner of Thiruvananthapuram City, during which time he showed his prowess in maintaining peace and order.
In addition to his role as IG Intelligence, Sinha held the positions of deputy inspector general and inspector general (IG) in the state’s south and central zones. Sinha worked as the IG of the Border Security Force in the Gujarat area from 2009 to 2014.
In 2014, upon his return to Kerala, IPS officer Arun Kumar Sinha was appointed as an additional director general of police at Kerala state police headquarters. He retained this position until 2016, following which he was named director of the SPG. He had recently been given a service extension. He withdrew a salary as per Level 17 after being granted apex level pay scale.
