IPS officer A Koan assigned to Goa has been dismissed from his duties as Deputy Inspector General and told to report to the state DGP. He was changed for molesting a girl at a nightclub.
Goa Director General of Police, Jaspal Singh, made a statement that a detailed report on the same has already been issued. He said that IPS officers shouldn’t be blamed based on an isolated instance of a misdemeanour without mentioning A Koan.
Strict Action Against A Koan Will Be Taken
A Koan is a member of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories) cadre of the Indian Police Service (IPS), class of 2009. The Goa government’s undersecretary (personal department), Nathine Araujo, issued an order on Wednesday night directing A Koan to report to the DGP immediately.
In response to allegations that an IPS officer had molested a lady at a bar in the state on Monday night (August 7), Chief Minister Pramod Sawant promised “strict action” against the official.
After Goa Forward Party (GFP) MLA Vijai Sardesai brought up the issue in the House on Wednesday, Pramod Sawant declared that such behaviour would not be condoned.
The Case Against A Koan After The Night Club Incident
Vijai Sardesai said in the House that a woman hit an IPS officer in the nightclub when he tried to molest her. However, he decided not to name the officer. The GFP legislator further said that the IPS officer had a history of “misbehaving” with women later on in the session.
Vijai Sardesai claimed he could present a videotape showing the IPS officer inviting a female casino employee “to sit next to him.” But, he did not specify when the alleged incident took place.
On Thursday, DGP Singh said, “Don’t judge officers of the IPS based on isolated instances of misdemeanour.” Without mentioning the alleged incident involving Koan, Singh praised IPS officers on X (Twitter).
He wrote, “They complete a protracted, demanding, and meticulous training process to serve the country. They are fighting terrorism, insurgency, naxalism, and daily criminality while laying down their life on the altar of the nation.”
