Recently, Instagram influencer Mannat Kulharia found herself in hot water after a video of her surfaced where she mentioned being willing to “sell or auction” her husband for money. Mannat is having more than 70k Instagram followers and most of her social media content revolves around fashion and lifestyle.
In her video, Mannat Kulharia compared her husband to a commodity, stating, “Just like Sridevi sold her husband in the film (Anil Kapoor), I will also sell off my husband.” This statement, coupled with another sparked outrage among viewers. She mentioned that her husband is priceless and can be auctioned.

The video quickly garnered negative reactions with many pointing out the double standards in how such statements are perceived based on the gender of the speaker. If a man-made similar comment about his wife, the response would likely have been vastly different by raising questions about societal attitudes towards gender and humour.

Following backlash from the India Council For Men Affairs, Kulharia responded defiantly, abusing the organization and asserting that what she chooses to do with her husband, including referring to him in terms of slave trade, is her choice. Despite later apologizing for her abusive remarks, the damage had been done, leading to calls for action against her.
