Deepika Sehrawat is an Indian field hockey player who was born on December 6, 2003. She is currently a member of the national team and recently helped retain the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2024 against China. She mainly plays as a forward on the field and specialises in drag flicks. Interestingly, Deepika started out as a wrestler and often practiced along with her brother. However, back in 2012 one day, she tried out hockey on her way to wrestling practice and eventually developed a knack for it.
Deepika belongs to a family that is heavily into wrestling and she initially started training at the SAI, Hisar centre alongside her elder brother.
Deepika made her senior international debut against Germany at the 2022 Pro League tie at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneshwar.
Deepika Sehrawat career
Deepika first gained prominence as a hockey player following her performances at the 2018 Sub-Junior National Championships in her hometown, Hisar. During that tournament, she managed to score 16 goals for Haryana, helping them win the Sun-Junior Nationals. Unsurprisingly, Deepika won the ‘Best Player’ of the tournament title.
Deepika after making her junior debut for India during the 2018 Youth Olympic Qualifiers back in March 2018. Three years later, she also took part in the Hockey women’s Junior World Cup 2021 in Potchefstroom, South Africa. She was also a part of the Indian team that won a gold medal at the Women’s Junior Asia Cup.
Back in 2020, Deepika Sehrawat was part of the Junior India women’s tour of Chile, playing a key role in maintaining the Indian team’s unbeaten run. She eventually made her debut for the Senior India team during the FIH Pro League 2021-2022 in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Deepika was also a part of the team that won a bronze medal at the 2022 Asian Games.
