Who is Urmila Rosario?
Seven years ago, her family returned to India, settling in Sakaleshpur and acquiring a coffee estate. Meanwhile, Urmila, a BBA graduate from Carnegie Mellon University, moved to Australia.
Having been a sports enthusiast since childhood, Urmila initially worked with the Qatar Tennis Federation for three years before joining the Adelaide cricket team in Australia for about three years.
Daughter of Ivy and Valentine Rosario, who hail from Kinnigoli, 34 year old Urmila was born in Doha, Qatar, like her three elder siblings.
She is the only one among the four children of the couple who chose sports instead of academics as a career and her eldest brother Dr David Rosario is a senior lecturer in astrophysics at Newcastle University. Of the other two brothers, Dr Rose Ishwari is in Scotland, while Uday teaches international law at Georgetown University, Qatar.
Urmila, 34, is the daughter of Ms Ivy Rosario, who worked as a teacher at a UGPC school in Doha-Qatar, and Valentine Rosario (dad) worked as a Finance Executive in a reputed Finance company, in Doha and hailing from Kinnigoli in DK, both Valentine and Ivy had moved to Doah in 1978. After nearly 40 years of employment, they came back to India and settled in Sakleshpur buying a Coffee Estate there. All their four children were born and brought up in Doha- the eldest son, Dr David Vikas Rosario, married Ms Allegra and has two children and is an Astronomy specialist, teaching at New Castle University in the UK.
Second is Dr Rose Ishwari Rosario, married to Dr Dirk Habicht and has three children and both are in Scotland and working for the NHS. The third son Uday Rosario, married Galateia. He is teaching at Georgetown University in Qatar and has two children. and the fourth one is Urmila Rosario, a BBA graduate from Carnegie Mellon University, settled in Australia and working as Team Manager for the Australia National Women’s team, and was asked to be the Team Manager for the Men National Cricket Team for the World Cup and she is currently unmarried.
Career
Later, she transitioned to the role of team manager for the Australian women’s cricket team. During the previous Football World Cup, she briefly left cricket to manage a football stadium in Qatar for four months.
Upon returning to Australia from Qatar in September, she was tasked with overseeing the Australian men’s cricket team for the World Cup.
Valentine, Urmila’s father, mentioned that she accompanied the men’s team specifically for the World Cup and will soon resume her role with the women’s cricket team, joining them for their tour of India in December.
Urmila, who originally focused on sports like basketball, tennis, rowing, and bungee jumping as a student, never anticipated her close association with cricket, according to her father. Describing Urmila’s responsibilities, Ivy, her mother, explained that she manages everything, including transportation and accommodation, overseeing a team of people.
Valentine finds it peculiar that Cricket Australia selected her for the national women’s cricket team about four years ago, considering she was a non-Australian with an Indian passport at the time.
Valentine speculated that Urmila’s recent assignment for the World Cup might be due to her successful management of the women’s team and her knowledge of India and its languages, as she can speak Hindi, Kannada, and Konkani.
Urmila’s parents had the opportunity to watch Australia’s matches against Pakistan in Bengaluru and Bangladesh in Pune. Although they wished to witness the finals, they were unable to leave their estate.
Urmila had visited her parents in March, working alongside her father on the estate.
