Senuran Muthusamy (born 22 February 1994) with a height of 6 feet 3 inches is a talented South African cricketer who made his international debut for the South Africa national team in October 2019. While Muthusamy was born in Durban, South Africa, he has Indian roots, with his Tamil Hindu family hailing from Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu. Muthusamy’s cricket journey began with his inclusion in the KwaZulu-Natal squad for the 2015 Africa T20 Cup.

A batting all-rounder who can bowl left arm orthodox spin, he is fourth-generation Tamil based in one of the biggest settlements of Indians outside India. Born in a family with roots in Tamil Nadu’s Nagapattinam district, the he doesn’t speak Tamil and two visits to India, he hasn’t had a chance to meet distant relatives, but intends to explore Nagapattinam if time permits.

His father Muthusamy was a sports lover, who introduced him to games at an early age and while he grew up playing football, he eventually switched to cricket.

Senuran lost his father when he was 11 and his mother enrolled him into coaching centres, as it was Muthusamy’s dream to see his son play for South Africa.

His career continued to evolve as he was named in the Cape Town Knight Riders’ squad for the inaugural season of the T20 Global League in August 2017. Unfortunately, the tournament was initially postponed and later cancelled by Cricket South Africa. In September 2018, Muthusamy was selected for KwaZulu-Natal’s squad once again, this time for the 2018 Africa T20 Cup. The following year, in April 2021, he was named to North West’s squad for the 2021–22 South African cricket season.

Muthuswamy boasts an impressive record in first-class cricket, which earned him a call-up to the South African national team for the series against India in 2019. On his Test debut on October 2, 2019, Muthuswamy had a memorable moment when he dismissed Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli, catching him off his own bowling. Although Muthuswamy has played only four Test matches over the past five years, his last appearance came against Bangladesh in October 2024.
