On Saturday, Puja Tomar of India successfully defended her Strawweight title by defeating Anastasia Feofanova of Russia in the first-ever all-women’s main event of MFN 12 at Noida Indoor Stadium.

Who is Puja Tomar?

25 year old Puja Tomar is the 13th ranked of 97 active Asia Southeast women (pound for pound) in 2023.

In Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, where he was raised, Tomar began his martial arts training at a young age. As a young girl, she looked up to Jackie Chan, who encouraged her to become an expert fighter. She measures 4’9″ (145 cm) tall and we weights 115 lbs (52.16 kgs).

Another reason she needed to learn self defence was to safeguard her mother, three sisters, and family after her father passed away when she was just six years old. Tomar reminisced her early years and childhood in an interview with Scroll:

It was just us three sisters. One of my sisters had a problem in her leg and I used to get really angry when somebody troubled or teased her for it.”

Tomar further said that she had already started hitting the boys. She used to watch Jackie Chan movies when she was younger, and she believed she could steal some of his stunts and use them to my advantage against these boys. Puja simply gravitated towards martial arts at that point.

Tomar has studied karate and taekwondo in addition to winning five Wushu championships. The Indian star considers mom a big influence and is grateful for her mother’s assistance in enabling her to pursue MMA professionally. She competed in Super Fight League and the ONE Championship, two of the biggest MMA events in South Asia, before joining MFN.
