Aansh Nerurkar became the first Indian to win in the future category at the Prague International Chess Festival, in addition to taking home the best team prize with GM R Praggnanandhaa.

He competed against Slovakia’s Andre Tomas (FIDE 1915) and Poland’s Brzezina Pawel (FIDE 1914), winning both times.

Who is Aansh Nerurkar?

Aansh Nerurkar from Mumbai is a budding chess player from India who studies at Orchids The International School in Borivali and is a class sixth student. He is currently 11 years old.

He dreams of becoming the youngest grandmaster globally and achieving the milestone of surpassing the 3,000 Elo rating.

A look at Aansh Nerurkar’s career so far

It all started when Aansh Nerurkar was just seven years old. He started participating in local tournaments where he gained experience with a variety of openings and middle and end game strategies. It was the time of COVID 19 when his interest in the game got so far, as per what he told Sportskeeda.

The youngster started playing chess as much as he could since it was one of the only games people could play that time whole being forced to stay inside their homes.

In the National U-11 Chess Championship in Vishakhapatnam in 2023, he earned the gold medal, having previously won the bronze in the National U-10 Championship in Jammu.

In 2023, Nerurkar won the gold medal in the Maharashtra Chess Rapid Chess Championship, held in Mumbai. He will receive the lifetime title of Candidate Master (CM) from FIDE in the upcoming months. He currently has a record of 163 wins, 47 ties, and 68 losses, according to a statement.

The youngster is now getting ready to compete in the upcoming World Chess Championship as well as the 2024 Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival.
