Avdhesh Kumar Bharti is a top-ranking Indian military officer who is known for his precision and leadership. He currently serves as an Air Marshal in the Indian Air Force, with over three decades of decorated service. Over the years, he has led crucial missions and pioneered strategies that neutralize threats with surgical accuracy. Bharti has also gone on to represent India in international military exercises like Gagan Shakti, Indradhanush, and Garuda.

AK Bharti is an Ahir from Purnia, Bihar and his father’s name is Jeevach Lal Yadav.

Education

Air Marshal Avdhesh Kumar Bharti notably received rigorous military training and education from the National Defence Academy.

He is an alumni of the National Defence Academy (NDA) and obtained primary training in defence and military studies and academics and further did higher-level training at the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) on staff tasks and military operations and the National Defence College, wherein he underwent studies of strategy covering national security and defense policy. He is also a qualified Fighter Combat Leader.

Military career and achievements

Avdhesh Kumar Bharti has over 20 years of active operations, including 12 major postings, and countless missions. He has so far achieved a historic military record, having led No. 30 Squadron in Pune and served at Eastern Air Command in Kolkata, Lohegaon’s 2 Wing. Bharti has held key roles in Directorate of Offensive Operations, Information and Electronic Warfare, and Strategic Forces Command.

Bharti was commissioned into the Indian Air Force on June 13, 1987, and seemingly climbed the ranks. He is a Fighter Combat Leader, and has played a pivotal role in shaping modern air warfare strategies. Back in 2005, he was appointed as the Commanding Officer of the Sukhoi-30 MKI Squadron.

Notably, Bharti received the Chief of Air Staff Commendation in 1997, and was also awarded the Vayu Sena Medal for excellence in combat preparedness in 2008. He was also appointed as Director General Air Operations (DG Air Ops) in 2023. Most recently, he was appointed as the strategic architect of ‘Operation Sindoor 2025.’

During Operation Sindoor, Bharti made precision plans that helped carry out targeted strikes to kill high-profile terrorists. Among the killed terrorists were IC-814 hijack mastermind Yusuf Azhar, Pulwama conspirator Mudasir Ahmed Khatham, and Lashkar commander Rauf.
