Jairam Ramesh, the Congress’s communications in-charge, demanded Mishra’s removal, alleging that he violated service regulations by openly criticizing the political opposition. Defending the Government of India is understandable and expected. However, openly attacking opposition parties like a party official is not appropriate for an Ambassador, even if they are a political appointee.
Jairam Ramesh said, ‘Defending the Government of India is one thing and is to be expected. But to attack Opposition parties openly in this manner like a party apparatchik is not expected from an Ambassador even if he be a political appointment.’
His also referred to his behaviour as unprofessional and disgraceful but sadly typical for the Modi administration. As per Congress officials, Akhilesh Mishra has violated service regulations and should be dismissed immediately.
Akhilesh Mishra career and education
Akhilesh Mishra who is from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh has worked in the Indian Foreign Service for over 30 years. The ambassador has experience in various areas like politics, security, economics, culture, and development projects. Before being assigned to Dublin, Mishra had important roles in the Ministry of External Affairs, such as Officer on Special Duty (Political) and Head of Development Partnership Administration.
He has also worked as India’s Ambassador to Maldives and as the Consul General of India in Toronto, Canada.Mishra, who is a polyglot, speaks English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Spanish, Italian, and Nepalese fluently.
He obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University.
Ambassador Mishra holds degrees of Bachelor of Technology and Masters of Technology, both from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and was the topper and Gold Medalist in both, securing a record 10.0 CGPA in M. Tech.
Akhilesh Mishra (IFS: 1989), Officer on Special Duty in the Ministry, had been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Ireland in 2021.
Mishra is known to have a deep passion for Indian culture, literature, and spirituality. He has a keen interest in Sanskrit Vedic and classical literature, Hindi and Urdu poetry, as well as yoga and meditation.
