Dhiman Chakma arrested on corruption charges
Dhiman Chakma is a 2021-batch IAS officer who was recently arrested on corruption charges after being caught accepting a bribe, find out more about him and the incident below. Odisha Vigilance carried out the arrest on June 8 by, after they caught him in the trap that they set up. Prior to the arrest, Chakma was serving as the Deputy Collector in Dharamgarh, Kalahandi, and had allegedly demanded ₹20 lakh from a local stone crusher businessman.
According to the complaint, Chakma even threatened regulatory action unless the businessman paid the bribe. Dhiman was reportedly caught accepted the first installment of the bribe worth ₹10 lakh. Following a chemical test, authorities reportedly found traces of the bribe on his hands and office drawer. Authorities then carried a subsequent raid on his official quarters, and seized ₹47 lakh in cash. Chakma has since been booked under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act (1988, amended 2018) and investigators are now tracing the source of the recovered cash.

Dhiman Chakma is a young IAS officer who hails from the small town of Kanchanpur in Tripura. He born into a humble family, and eventually rose through the ranks with grit and self-discipline. Chakma is currently in his early 30s, and he is relatively young for an officer already facing such serious charges.
Parents
There are currently no exact details available about the identity of Dhiman Chakma’s parents. However, his father reportedly worked as a school teacher, while his mother managed the household. He is married to Minnie who is a doctor by profession.
Education
Dhiman Chakma obtained his B.Tech in Computer Science from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Agartala. He then went on to clear the UPSC exams without attending any elite coaching institutes or influential networks, and fully relying on self-study.

Dhiman Chakma first cracked the UPSC Civil Services Examination back in 2019, securing a rank of 722. He first gained entry into the Indian Forest Service (IFS), and he was posted in Mayurbhanj, Odisha. Dhiman then decided to sit for the exam again in 2020, where he managed to improve his rank to 482. Following which he secured a spot in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) with the Odisha cadre.
After completing his year-long training, Chakma then got posted to Dharamgarh, where he took on various responsibilities related to local governance and rural development. Chakma’s story inspired many young civil service aspirants in the Northeast. However, all that narrative changed overnight following Chakma’s recent arrest. Unsurprisingly, the same officer who once spoke publicly about integrity, transparency, and good governance is now facing intense backlash on social media.
