IAF officer Tage Hailyang killed in Pahalgam terror attack
An IAF Corporal named Tage Hailyang, who was posted in Srinagar, was recently killed while out on a short break to visit Pahalgam with his wife. The peaceful holiday turned into a tragic nightmare as armed terrorists killed Hailyang and several other victims. The incident took place on Tuesday, April 16, 2025, when several armed terrorists opened fire on a group of civilians in the area, killing around 26 people.
Tage Hailyang bio and age
Tage Hailyang was a 30-year-old IAF officer who hailed from Tajang village in Ziro, Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh. Hailyang had joined the Indian Air Force around 8–9 years ago after completing his graduation in humanities. Known for his discipline and commitment, Hailyang had built a respectable career in the armed forces.
Family
Tage Hailyang came from a close-knit family with strong ties to their community, where his father Tage Tade, is the village headman. Meanwhile, his brother, Tage Mali, also serves in the Indian Army and is currently posted in Srinagar. The family came to know about his tragic death through his wife’s urgent call around 3 pm.
Education
After completing his early schooling in Ziro, Hailyang pursued higher education and graduated in humanities. He eventually decided to serve the country by joining the Indian Air Force following his graduation.
Marriage and wife
Tage Hailyang got married just back in December 2024 and was just settling into married life with his newlywed wife. The couple had decided to take a brief holiday in Pahalgam, which turned out to be a gruesome end for Tage, while his wife survived the attack.
Tributes and Condolences
Following the news about the tragic death, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed deep sorrow, stating:
Deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Corporal Tage Hailyang of the Indian Air Force, a brave son of Arunachal Pradesh… His life was cruelly taken in a senseless act of terror.”
He posted the message on his X account, adding that Hailyang’s courage and service would never be forgotten. Khandu further wrote:
He served the nation with courage and honor, and his untimely death is a great loss not only to his family but to the entire country. Offering prayers and strength to Hailyang’s grieving wife and loved ones.”
Authorities will transport Tage Hailyang’s body from Srinagar to Guwahati and then fly it to Arunachal Pradesh, where the entire community awaits to pay their final respects.
