The Royal family confirmed the tragic news of Britain’s longest-reigning monarch’s death on Thursday by saying that the Queen had died peacefully at her home in Balmoral on Thursday, September 8 at the age of 96.

The palace released the statement as, “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

The BBC presenter Edwards was seen upset and teary-eyed as he read the devastating news.

He said, “A few moments ago, Buckingham Palace announced the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”

The veteran presenter earned praises from the audience for his somber announcement.

One of the viewers took to his social media account and wrote, “Hats off to Huw Edwards who has been delivering extraordinary coverage on BBC One since lunchtime. A masterclass in professionalism. I am in awe.”

Another one penned down, “Not an easy job, well done Huw Edwards.”

Who is Huw Edwards?

Huw Edwards is a newsreader at BBC. He presents BBC News at 10, which is the corporation’s flagship evening news program.

Huw Edwards salary stands at £425,000-£429,999 with his net worth being $3 million.

Huw has represented several royal events for BBC, including Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Following the death of the Queen, in a statement King Charles III said, “The death of my beloved mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.

The tragic news of Her Majesty’s death comes 17 months after the death of the Duke of Edinburgh, who died back in April 2021. They were married for 73 years.

During her last days, Queen Elizabeth had struggled with mobility issues.

As per reports, King Charles was said to have been making regular morning visits to see his ailing mother during the period.
