Rahul Dravid, the team’s head coach, is engaged with the duties of the World Cup squad; hence, Laxman and Kanitkar are in charge of leading the team at the Asian Games. Laxman, a former batsman, is ready to serve as a coach for the Indian men’s team.
Apart from Hrishikesh Kanitkar and VVS Laxman, the support staff for the Indian men’s team during the Asian Games will also include former India leg-spinner Sairaj Bahutule, who takes on the role of bowling coach, along with Munish Bali, who will be focusing on fielding coaching. Additionally, the young batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad has been given the duty of leading the squad in this esteemed competition.

Who is Hrishikesh Kanitkar?
Hrishikesh Kanitkar is a renowned former Indian cricketer. He has been in the news because he is going to take on coaching responsibilities for the Indian squad at the upcoming 19th Asian Games.
He was born on 14 November 1974 in Pune, Maharashtra, India. His father’s name is Hemant Kanitkar, a former Indian wicketkeeper who played in two test matches. He also has a brother named Aditya Kanitkar, a golfer.
His height is 5 feet 11 inches, or 180.5 cm, and his weight is 81 kg, or 178.5 lbs. He is currently 48 years old.
His brother Aditya played golf, while Aditya’s wife and Kanitkar’s sister-in-law Radhika Tulpule is an ex-tennis player. Nothing is known about his marital status or wife.
His career
In the 1994–1995 Ranji Trophy, Hrishikesh Kanitkar made his first-class debut against the Mumbai cricket team. The match ended in a tie. His outstanding performances for the Maharashtra cricket team in the Ranji Trophy opened the door to widespread acclaim.
Despite the fact that Kanitkar briefly disappeared from the international stage, in the 2006 season, his cricketing interests brought him to the Brentwood Cricket Club in Essex. He flourished in the English environment there, scoring more than 1000 runs with a remarkable average of 76.
Transitioning to the Rajasthan Ranji team, Hrishikesh Kanitkar’s seasoned presence contributed to their success. During the 2010–11 Ranji Trophy season, he served as captain of the Rajasthan team, leading them to their first Ranji Trophy title after defeating Baroda in the championship match. He reached a big milestone in December 2012 when he became the 27th cricketer to play in 100 Ranji Trophy games.
In the Silver Jubilee Independence Cup final between India and Pakistan in Dhaka, he hit a spectacular boundary when India needed 3 runs from 2 balls. However, in the aftermath of this, Kanitkar announced his retirement from cricket in July 2015.
Later, Hrishikesh Kanitkar started off as the Kochi Tuskers of Kerala’s assistant coach before leading the cricket teams of Goa and Tamil Nadu. Ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2023, his effective coaching approach earned him the title of stand-in head coach for India’s women’s national cricket team.
