Salima Tete is Indian field hockey player who was born on December 26, 2001 in Simdega, Jharkhand, India. The 22-year-old plays as a midfielder for the National team and stands 1.65 m tall.
A look at Salima Tete’s career so far
Salima Tete’s father’s background as a former hockey player might be the reason why she got into the sport after getting exposed to the game because of her father.
She went on to become the only Jharkhand’s second Olympic competitor, following Nikki Pradhan after receiving professional training since the age of 12 at a hockey academy.
Known for her strong defending abolities, it all started in 2017 when Tete made her debut for the national team against Belarus. Under her direction, the Indian team went on to earn a silver medal at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games. Additionally, she was selected to represent India in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
In the FIH Olympic Qualifiers, she played a key role in India’s victory over the US, and her inclusion on the team has been cemented by her exceptional recent achievements. She also took part in India’s successful 2022 Women’s Asia Cup campaign, in which they finished in third place.
This is not it. The rising young player was crucial to both of these accomplishments, as she clinched a bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and placed third in the FIH Hockey Women’s Pro League in 2021–2022.
