The Seattle Kraken has hired Jessica Campbell as an assistant coach on Wednesday, making her the first female assistant or associate coach in NHL history to work in a bench position.

Following this step, she will overcome yet another obstacle facing women in hockey. For the most part, the NHL has fallen behind other sporting leagues like NBA, MLB, and NFL in having female coaches and players on the bench. 

The NHL Coaches Association launched the Female Coaches Development Program in 2021 in an attempt to boost the application pool. Now that we have mentioned Campbell, here is all you need to know about her.

Jessica Eve Campbell is a Canadian Ice Hockey assistant manager who was born on June 24, 1992, in Rocanville, Saskatchewan, Canada. The 32-year-old stands 5 ft 5 in (165 cm) and weighs 137 lb (62 kg; 9 st 11 lb).

Jessica Campbell is currently the assistant manager of the Seattle Kraken in the National Hockey League. She is also a former player who used to play as a forward. 

Campbell was considered as one of the key players by the NCAA, the Canadian Women’s Hockey League, and the Canadian women’s national team, which she captained in the 2015 world championship.

She had previously played a single season in Sweden with the Malmo Redhawks, but she gave up skating in 2017 and relocated at Coachella Valley in 2022.

She was well-known as a skating coach at that point of her career. Additionally, during the 2022 IIHF World Championships, she led as an assistant coach for the German team.

Jessica fell in love with coaching after her playing career was over and she retired. She has spent the last two seasons serving as an assistant coach with Coachella Valley’s AHL affiliate of Seattle, alongside Dan Bylsma, who was named head coach of the Kraken in late May.

She also assisted on the Kraken bench for one game in the preseason against Calgary in September of last year. 

She became the first full-time female assistant coach in the AHL when Coachella Valley hired her before the league’s debut season. Nothing is known about her relationship status with her believed to be single and unmarried.
