Harris County authorities say their pursuit of Lacy late Saturday night ended when Lacy crashed and when officers approached the vehicle to extract Lacy, they say he had died in an apparent suicide.

Lacy was pronounced dead at the scene by the emergency responders.

Lacy, who was from Thibodaux, Louisiana was driving recklessly speeding and passing in a no-passing zone when a motorist who was swerving to avoid Lacy’s Dodge Charger crashed head-on into another vehicle.

Herman Hall of Thibodaux, who was involved in a head-on crash, died after being transported to a hospital and authorities with State Police Troop C in Gray, Louisiana, said Lacy fled the scene of the accident without calling for help. Lacy was then booked with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run and reckless operation of a vehicle.

Louisiana State Police said that the alleged lane-swerving by 24-year-old Kyren Lacy caused two cars to hit head-on on LA Highway 20 in Chackbay, resulting in Herman Hall’s death on December 17, 2024. After two tours in Vietnam, Herman Hall returned to his cherished Louisiana post. After 36 years of service, he retired from his customs duty.

Herman Hall, 78, spent his entire life being proud of fighting for his country and the doting father, grandfather and beloved neighbor was a friend to all.

Hall lost his life on December 17, 2024, when Louisiana State Police said 24-year-old Kyren Lacy was swerving in and out of lanes on LA Highway 20 in Chackbay, causing two vehicles to crash head-on into one another. Herman Hall, a former Marine, was a passenger in a Kia Sorrento and was critically injured in the 10 a.m. crash and transported to a hospital where he later died.

Heather Dickerson, Hall’s daughter, told WAFB that her father “loved to garden.”

Dickerson stated that on the day of the crash, her parents were out running their regular errands. She actually gave her parents a call to check on them soon after the accident.

“She said we just got into a wreck,” Dickerson remembers her mother telling her. Her mother responded that “he’s fine, but he’s complaining about back pain” when she asked about her father as well. But Hell passed away not long after getting to the hospital.

Dickerson stated that she wants to make sure that Lacy’s fame does not result in any special treatment when she found out that he is allegedly to blame for the hit-and-run incident.

Stressing that he must face consequences, she told WAFB, “I don’t want it to be swept under the rug because of who they may or may not be and who they know. We all know that happens. We will make sure there is justice some way.”
