Havildar Mandeep Singh was one among the five Rashtriya Rifles soldiers who lost their lives in a recent terror attack in Poonch, Jammu, and Kashmir. The body of the martyr Mandeep Singh did not arrive until the afternoon, the villagers then decided to hold a funeral procession and cremation on Saturday.

Havildar Mandeep Singh was a 39-year-old soldier and he is survived by his wife Jagdeep Kaur who is the mother of two. Mandeep had an 11-year-old daughter and an eight-year-old son.

Havildar Mandeep Singh was the eldest son of the late Sarpanch Roop Singh and he was the sole earner of his family. He had recently returned to his unit after a one-month leave when he tragically lost his life in the terror attack.

His untimely demise has left his family and the entire village in deep grief. Mandeep Singh will be remembered as an inspiration to the local youth. His death has not only shocked his village but also neighboring villages where he was admired for his dedication to serving the nation.

Jagdeep Kaur, the wife of Havildar Mandeep Singh, recalled receiving the heartbreaking news of her husband’s martyrdom. She received a call from the Army officer at 6:15 pm, asking if she was Mandeep Singh’s wife and if any other family members or children were around.

The officer then confirmed the tragic news of Mandeep Singh’s death in the attack. Jagdeep Kaur had a video called her husband for over 30 minutes at around 12:00 pm on the day of the attack, and they had a happy conversation.

Mandeep had been posted at multiple places since 2005, including Firozpur, Arunachal Pradesh, Dalhousie, and Poonch. He was a believer in upliftment through education and had instilled the same values in his children. He inspired his daughter to become a district magistrate and his son to join the Army, just like him. Mandeep Singh always encouraged his children to pursue higher education and ensured that they were admitted to the best school in the area.
