Who Is Harini Logan?

Harini Logan is a teenager who just won the Scripps National Spelling Bee competition for the year 2022.

She is only 14 years old at the time. She was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. Her ethnicity is Indian, yet she is an American citizen. She is in the eighth grade at the San Antonio Montessori School and Dinesh Chandrasekhar and Rampriya Logan are her parents.

Logan is inspired by USA’s vice president Kamala Harris and is the fifth Scripps champion to be coached by Grace Walters, ex-student at Rice University. Logan won $50,000 cash prize and Scripps Cup along with prizes from Merriam-Webster and Encyclopedia Britannica.

Vikram Raju and Harini Logan, the final two contenders, had trouble spelling their words between rounds 13 and 18. The judges agreed to hold the first spell-off at that moment, allowing the champion 90 seconds to correctly spell as many words as possible, and the champion will win the Bee.

Logan spelled 22 words correctly, notably her winning word, moorhen, a term that refers to a female red grouse. Raju, the other contestant, spelled 15 incorrectly.

At the national level, Harini outspelled 230 contenders, including ‘sereh,’ a fragrant grass native to southern Asia, ‘charadriiform,’ a bird order that comprises shorebirds, auks, and gulls,’ and ‘ditalini,’ a short elbow-shaped macaroni.

Prize Money She Won

She received a $50,000 cash reward for winning the competition.

In addition to this, she also received a commemorative medal and the Scripps Cup, as well as a $2,500 cash award and Merriam-Webster reference library, as well as $400 in reference books from Encyclopedia Britannica.
