German professional football manager Hans-Dieter “Hansi” Flick is the head coach of the German National Team. During the FIFA World Cup 2022, he is also leading the Die Mannschaft. Flick was born in Heidelberg, West Germany, on February 24, 1965 and is 57 years old. When Germany won its fourth World Cup in 2014, he served as Joachim Low’s assistant coach.
As a player
Hansi Flick played in the midfield. He participated in 104 games for Bayern Munich between 1985 and 1990, scoring 5 goals. From 1990 to 1993, he also competed for FC Koln, where he scored 44 goals. Hansi never participated in a game for Germany. He nevertheless participated in a few games for the U18 squad.
As a coach
From 2006 through 2014, Joachim Low employed Flick as his assistant coach for the German National Team. By defeating Argentina 1-0 in the World Cup Final, he contributed to the country’s victory and their fourth championship. Flick joined Bayern Munich in 2019 as the team’s assistant manager. At the halfway point of the 2019โ20 season, he continued to lead the team. That year, he assisted the Bavarian in the club’s second-ever treble, which included victories in the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and UEFA Champions League. He was also recognised in 2020 as the UEFA Men’s Coach of the Year and the German Football Manager of the Year.
Flick resigned from his position with Bayern Munich in 2021 to become the German National Team’s manager. After the Euro 2020 Championship, he took over as Joachim Low’s replacement (held in 2021). To lead the national squad, Flick committed to a three-year contract. In the summer of 2024, his contract will be over.
