Kemi Badenoch’s husband, Hamish, shares a fascinating link with Sir Denis Thatcher: both men met their future wives while engaged in Tory activism, with both women campaigning in secure Labour strongholds. In 2010, Hamish often drove Kemi to events during her campaign against Labour’s Tessa Jowell in Dulwich and West Norwood.
Similarly, Sir Denis famously chauffeured a young Margaret Roberts—later Margaret Thatcher—back to London in his sports car after she stood for Dartford in the 1950 and 1951 elections. One charming coincidence is that Hamish and Kemi were born just a year apart at St. Teresa’s Hospital in Wimbledon. This shared birthplace became a point of connection between them, sparking a friendship when Hamish was an activist with the Dulwich and West Norwood Tory association, later becoming her campaign manager. The two first met in 2009. They married in 2012 and have two sons and a daughter, aged between five to 12 years.
He went to the University of Cambridge, Trinity College, to pursue a bachelor’s degree in history. Hamish has a net worth of $1-2 million.
Hamish’s early life saw him as head boy at Ampleforth College, the Roman catholic boarding school followed by studies at Cambridge. His career included journalism in Malawi, consulting in Nigeria, and managing an Avis car hire franchise in Kenya, before he returned to London to work in finance at Barclays and Deutsche Bank. Like Kemi, Hamish once pursued a political career, standing as a Conservative candidate in the SDLP-held seat of Foyle in Northern Ireland in 2005.
For the past 14 years, Hamish Badwnoch has worked at Deutsche Bank and is currently the global head of “future of work and real estate transformation” and he previously worked at Barclays and read history at Cambridge from 1998 to 2001.
His has a Scottish Gaelic heritage and is a Christian by religion although he was born in Wimbledon. He was a Conservative councillor from 2014 to 2018 at Merton Council.
