Jade Ashtyn Carey is an American artistic gymnast who was born on May 27, 2000 in Phoenix, Arizona, United States. She was born to parents Brian Carey, and Danielle Mitchell-Greenberg. She gained prominence after representing the United States at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and won a gold in the Women’s floor exercise.

Carey won a gold medal back in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics for her iconic floor routine, just 24 hours after a shaky performance in the vault final. And now 4 years later, she looks set to return to the prestigious tournament in Paris following a difficult year. Carey stated in a recent interview that 2023 was her worst year in elite gymnastics.
She said this while mainly referring to her performance at the National Championships’ all-around event in 2023, where she finished at a disappointing 15th place. Jade Carey is renowned for her unique signature skill, which features a tucked Kasamatsu full. It is a move performed on the vault and it was renamed “the Carey” back in 2016 by the Junior Olympic Code of Points in her honor.

Jade started out training under her father at a young age and started competing professionally at the age of 12. However, she did not start competing at the elite level up until she was 17. She mainly gained prominence after her appearance in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, when she represented the US as an individual competitor.
She is also currently a member of the Oregon university’s gymnastic team where her father worked as an assistant coach in 2023. Carey will be competing in the Olympics as part of a team for the first time alongside Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, Suni Lee, and Hezly Rivera.
