Hezly Rivera, a resident of Plano, has dedicated her entire existence to gymnastics and she is one of the top prospects at the Paris Olympics. 

She won bronze in the floor exercise in the all-around competition to start the 2024 Winter Cup gymnastics season and on the beam, she took first place as well.

Hezly Rivera is an American artistic gymnast who was born on June 4, 2008 in Hackensack, New Jersey. She is just 16 years old. She is an American and can speak both English and Spanish.

A look at Hezly Rivera’s career so far 

In 2023, she competed for the Junior World Championship squad that won the silver medal. She also won the silver medal at the Junior Worlds in floor exercises in 2023.

Her family likewise had to make sacrifices for her. Early in her career, the 15-year-old’s family relocated from New Jersey so she could begin training at WOGA Plano with world champion coaches Valeri and Anna Liukin. 

At the 2022 Winter Cup, Rivera participated and finished third in the all-around competition. As a result of this, she was selected to participate in the DTB Pokal Team Challenge where she contributed to the USA’s gold medal win.

In July, Rivera competed in the U.S. Classic and finished second overall, behind Jayla Hang. In addition, she won silver on the floor exercise and gold on the balancing beam. She also finished fourth in the vault.

The following month, Rivera competed in the National Championships, winning sixth place overall and bronze in the floor exercise. Rivera competed in the 2023 Winter Cup and won the overall championship. 

Rivera assisted the USA in finishing second behind Japan on the opening day of the Junior World Championships.

However, during the vault rotation, Rivera’s hand slid on the vaulting table, costing her a zero on the apparatus and disqualifying her from the all-around final.

She did make it to the uneven bars and floor workout finals. Italian Giulia Perotti won silver in the floor exercise during the event finals, but Rivera finished eighth on the uneven bars.
