On February 6, 2025, Guo Jiaxuan who played in the centre-back position sustained a critical head injury during a match between Beijing’s U-20 team and RC Alcobendas in Madrid and the collision led to a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a type of brain bleeding that occurs between the brain and the thin tissues covering it. Emergency medical teams rushed him to a Madrid hospital, where he was declared brain dead and shortly after, Guo was transported back to Beijing Tiantan Hospital, where he remained in a coma. Despite medical intervention, he passed away just a day before his 19th birthday.

Following the unintentional collision, Guo Jiaxuan experienced a subarachnoid haemorrhage, a type of stroke brought on by bleeding on the brain, according to his brother’s social media posts.

Guo’s brother claims that doctors in Madrid later determined that he had “brain death.” Beijing Guoan, his last club, has now revealed the sad news in a heartfelt ode to “a child who loved football.”

Guo Jiaxuan’s father, who is suffering from leg problems, lost his voice and cried bitterly when leaving his son and was against the doctors refusing the life support his son was on.

A spokesperson for RC Alcobendas said: “We want to express our deep concern for the player from the Beijing Football Association delegation who suffered an accident during the friendly match played against our first team. We send all our support to him, his family and his team at this difficult time.”
