Guilherme Madruga’s career
Madruga started his career at 13 years old, influenced by his father. After working with José Bonifácio for a while, Madruga joined Desportivo Brasil’s young teams in 2017. Starting in a 6-1 Campeonato Paulista Série A3 home defeat over Rio Preto, he made his senior debut with the latter team on February 23, 2019.
He was confirmed at Série B side Botafogo-SP on November 18, of that year, on a one-year loan contract. On June 27, 2023, Madruga scored his first goal for the team, a bicycle kick goal from outside the area that clinched Bota’s 1-0 victory over Novorizontino and earned him a candidature for the 2023 FIFA Puskás Award edition.
Botafogo bought 60% of Madruga’s economic rights for the following season on October 24, 2023, by utilising his buyout clause.

Guilherme Madruga was welcomed by Genildo (nicknamed Eskerdinha), his father, who played football in Campo Grande as an amateur in the 1990s. Gustavo, his older brother, also participated in José Bonifácio’s youth football programme but was forced to retire owing to a hip injury.
