During the recent game between Texas and Georgia at the Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, the ESPN cameras cut to a crowd shot late in the fourth quarter.

The cameras showed a crowd shot of a Grant, a UT sophomore with hair about the size of Texas, drawing all kinds of reactions.

Grant Walther is a 20-year-old sophomore political science major student at the University of Texas who is currently going viral on social media. The youngster went viral and soon became a meme for his hairdo, drawing comparisons to Conway Twitty, Syndrome, and Butthead. Owing to his recent fame, Walther recently sat for an interview with WFAA, a television studio based in Dallas, Texas. Walther shared how his crazy hairdo comes naturally after washing his hair every morning using a Dial two-in-one shampoo.

While Walther has no plans to cut his hair for now, he shared how cancer is a big issue in his family and would be willing to cut his hair for any fundraising opportunity related to cancer research purposes.

Grant Walther reacts to becoming a meme


Grant shared about his experience of becoming a meme and how it all started stating that he was sitting and watching the game absolutely crushed when he first noticed people around him on their phones. His friends around him then showed him that he was a meme. Walther shared:

They go, ‘Walter you’re a meme.’ And I’m sitting here absolutely astonished because how could I be a meme? I’m just watching a football game.”

I have all these different people showing me these Twitter posts and people are already commenting on them comparing me to people like Conway Twitty and Syndrome, you know, Butthead. And I just sat there like, you’ve gotta be kidding me. I’ve already lost tonight and now I’m getting turned into a meme all over the Internet. Really? Like I was astonished really.”

Walther shared how he first took some of the jokes personally but eventually learned to have fun with it all. He also shared how life at his university campus quickly changed after the meme incident. Walther told WFAA how random people stared stopping him to take photos together and even received applauses while walking into class.

Grant Walther is currently a sophomore at the University of Texas, where he is a major in political science. He is also pre-law, as well as a business minor and a Jefferson Scholars student.
