Govind Dholakia is a Gujarat-based diamond merchant, public speaker, and philanthropist. He has been in the news because he was chosen as the candidate by the BJP for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections from Gujarat.
He was originally from the Gujarati area of Amreli and is well-known by the moniker Kaka. He was born on 7th November 1947, in the remote village of Dudhala, Gujarat. Dholakia is one of seven siblings, and unlike other business owners, he barely completed Class 7.
He is currently 76 years old.
Dholakia, his wife Champaben and their Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) own movable and immovable properties worth Rs 279 crore. They have a son named Shreyas and are Hindus by religion.
His career
Govind Dholakia started in the diamond industry doing polishing and cutting. Following a few years of employment, Dholakia and his companion decided to work on their own. According to reports, Dholakia founded Shree Ramakrishna Export Company in 1970 with a loan of Rs 410.
Based on his LinkedIn page, his firm currently employs more than 5000 individuals. The overall income of his firm exceeds Rs 14,945 crore.
In 2014, Govind Dholakia established the SRK Knowledge Foundation (SRKKF) to promote social engagement via education, healthcare, and agriculture, among other areas, following the “Giving Back to the Society” philosophy. In several roles, he is connected to more than thirty trusts in the fields of education, medicine, and society.
