Here is all you need to know about the amateur golf player with tattoos competing at the 2023 Masters, career of Sam Bennett and his bio and age

There are exactly as many A-list players in the featured groups for the first two days of the 2023 Masters as you might predict, but there is one player whose name you might not often connect with golf.

Sam Bennett would be in that.

Bennett will have the chance to hit the course with Max Homa and Scottie Scheffler as they contend for the green jacket even though this is only his second major of his career.

He will be one of the seven amateurs competing at the Masters, along with Ben Carr, Harrison Crowe, Mateo Fernandez De Oliveira, Matthew McClean, Aldrich Potgieter, and Gordon Sargent.

But who really is Sam Bennett, and what is his history? Here is all about the Texas golfer as he gets ready to compete on the biggest platform in his sport.

Who is Sam Bennett?

Sam Bennett, a 23-year-old golfer who height is at 5 feet 10 inches, took first place in the 2022 U.S. Amateur competition. His victory earned him free entry into the 2023 Masters and 2023 Open Championship, two competitions he had never before taken part in.

Bennett will have a second chance to participate in a major competition at the Masters. He qualified for the 2022 U.S. Open after making the cut and finished tied for 49th after shooting an overall score of 10-over-par.

He’s among the longest players in college golf, with an average ball speed of 185 miles per hour that tops out at nearly 200.

Sam Bennett’s hometown, education and family

Bennett, the youngest of Stacy and Mark Bennett’s three kids, was raised in Madisonville, Texas. He played golf frequently when he was younger, and Texas A&M in the area eventually awarded him a scholarship for college.

He had trained at the school’s home course, the Traditions Club, beginning at the age of 13, so it made sense that he would attend there, especially since it was close to home.

Because, Mark, his father had early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, a memory-impairing degenerative and incurable disorder, Bennett wanted to stay near to his family.

Mark’s health rapidly declined when Sam Bennett was a college student, despite the fact that it had been discovered when Sam was still a high school student.

Sam leaned on his college coach Brian Kortan, who had lost his father when he was a young lad, as part of his support system throughout Mark’s sickness.

He ultimately started taking medications and saw a sports psychologist in late 2020 to deal with his continuous anxiety.

Sam Bennett’s tattoos

“Don’t wait to do something,” is tattooed on Bennett’s left forearm.

What’s the significance of that? Since his father was fighting Alzheimer’s, it was the final thing he wrote.

Bennett claimed to Golf Channel that his father once made these comments to him in the kitchen while he was cool and collected, with clear mind.

After then, Bennett asked his mother to ask his father to record the word. She did, and he added “Pops” engraved on it.

Bennett has additional ink as well. He has a number of symbols on his chest, including “five birds for his family members [and] the Methodist cross for his faith,” according to Golf Channel.
