The teenager posted four under par rounds and is contention for a spot in the tournament’s Top 20. Russell’s performance at Lakewood National Golf Club has undoubtedly surprised many, but the youngster has shown numerous signs of his quality in recent times.

Miles Russell the top ranked junior golfer in the world is an American teenage golf prodigy who was born in 2009 in Jacksonville, Florida, where he currently resides. Russell first got introduced to golf through his father and grandfather at the young age of two. Russell’s home course is located at the Atlantic Beach Country Club in Florida. Despite his young age, the teenager is already showing qualities of a seasoned veteran.

His grandfather, Ron Hipp, and his father, Joe Russell, took him to the range when he was just two and worked with him from the time they noticed him taking one of his older brother Caleb’s right-handed clubs.

Miles Russell is currently just 15 years old and stands at a height of 5’7”.

Career and achievements

Miles Russell won his first major trophy with the 2018 Junior Honda Classic and later won the US Kids World Championship in 2020 and 2021. The youngster also played the Junior Ryder Cup in 2023 and won the Boys Junior Player of the Year award the same year. The award is presented by the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA), and Russell became the youngest player to receive it, surpassing golf legend Tiger Woods.

Miles Russell also became the youngest player ever to win The Junior Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in 2023. More recently, Russell made his debut on the Korn Ferry Tour four days ago at the 2024 LECOM Suncoast Classic. The youngster made the cut after shooting 68 and 66 during the first two rounds. In doing so, he became the youngest player ever in history to make the cut on the circuit.

He also carded three eagles, including two in the second round and one in the third round. During his least favored round, i.e. the third round, Russell still stood strong. He started off the round at 4 over through 3rd, after carding a double bogey on the first three holes. Despite the setback, he bounced back and didn’t concede any bogeys over the next 15 holes. He finished the round with an eagle and three birdies at 1 under.
