Gina is the only child of Hope Margaret Nicholas and Lang Hancock. Until 4 four years of age, Rinehart lived with her parents in Nunyerry, North of Wittenoom. The Rinehart family then shifted to Mulga Downs station in the Pilbara. Later on, Rinehart boarded at the St Hilda’s Anglican School for Girls in Perth. Rinehart briefly studied economics at the University of Sydney, before dropping out and working for her father. She rebuilt the HPPL company to become one of the most successful and private companies in Australia’s history of all time.

In 1973, at the young 19 years, she met Englishman Greg Milton while both were working in Wittenoom. At this time Milton changed his surname to an earlier family named Hayward. Their children, John Langley and Bianca Hope were born in 1976 and 1977. The duo separated in 1979 and divorced in 1981. In 1983, Rinehart married a corporate lawyer and Arco executive, Frank Rinehart in Las Vegas. They had 2 children, Hope and Ginia, born in 1986 and 1987 respectively.

Frank Rinehart topped of Harvard College and then topped of Harvard Law School Frank Rinehart died in 1990.

In 2016, she also started to sponsor the Australian Rowing Team leading into the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. It is understood that the deal now also extends to Paris in 2024. With the notable exception for receiving a royalty stream from Hamersley Iron since the late 1960s, Lang Hancock’s mining activities were basically related to exploration and the accumulation of the mining leases.
