George Floyd, a 46-year-old father, lived much of his life in Houston, Texas, where he was born and raised. He was accused of armed robbery in a Houston home invasion in 2007.
According to court records, Floyd received a five-year prison term in 2009 as part of a plea agreement. Years later, in search of a new beginning and jobless, he relocated from Houston to Minneapolis, where he worked as a truck driver and bouncer.
He had been employed as a security guard at the city’s Conga Latin Bistro, a restaurant serving food from Latin America. Floyd, however, lost his work as a result of the coronavirus stay-at-home instructions.
Jessi Zendejas, a patron of Conga, wrote on Facebook that the security officer “liked his embraces from his regulars. He honestly loved seeing everyone and watching everyone have fun. He would be upset if you didn’t stop to welcome him.”
Flyod had excelled in basketball and football at school as a natural athlete. Jonathan Veal, a former classmate, told KWTX that he was “simply blown away” since he had never before seen a 12-year-old so big. We never called him George; instead, we always called him Floyd or Big Floyd.
Floyd was described by his Yates High School football and basketball teammate as “caring, his personality and his love for others were equal or bigger than his physical stature, and he always had the heart to give back”. Additionally, two of Floyd’s kids have spoken out about his passing.
According to reports, Connie Mason and Quincy Mason attended a Black Lives Matter demonstration on May 31 in Bryan, Texas. “My dad is at peace, so we have to handle all of this stress,” Connie stated. “It will be difficult to overcome this on a daily basis.” Roxie Washington, Floyd’s ex-partner, spoke to the media about their six-year-old daughter Gianna and how much he cherished her.
Courtney Ross, his girlfriend, called him an “angel on earth” and said that her boyfriend “can not die in vain.”
Why Was He Detained In Minneapolis?
On May 25, police were called after a young grocery store employee reported that Floyd had used a fake $20 bill. In Minneapolis, he had purchased cigarettes from Cup Foods.
“Floyd was a dependable client who never caused any trouble,” said store owner Mike Abumayyaleh, who was not at work at the time and spoke to NBC.
The Minneapolis Police Department said in a statement that the officers responded to an allegation of a “forgery in process.”
What Caused His Death?
George Floyd’s death was ruled a homicide on June 1 by a medical examiner. He claimed that when cops detained him and crushed his neck, his heart stopped.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office’s official report states that “cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression” was the cause of death.
The report concluded that “Floyd suffered a cardiac arrest while being restrained by a law enforcement officer(s).” The office listed Floyd’s heart problems and hypertension as “additional important conditions.” It also included recent methamphetamine usage and fentanyl intoxication. However, those elements were not mentioned in the cause of death section.
Floyd’s family also paid for a separate autopsy that determined that his death was a homicide. Ben Crump, the family’s attorney, said the report found that he died of asphyxiation caused by compression of the neck and back.
According to the forensic pathologist who performed the autopsy, the compression stopped the flow of blood to Floyd’s brain and the pressure of other officers’ knees on his back prevented him from breathing, Crump said.
Police Personnels Who Are Responsible For His Death
Two of the four Minnesota police officers present when George Floyd was restrained were Derek Chauvin and Tou Thao. In the now-viral video, Chauvin is the white police officer shown kneeling on Floyd’s neck for more than eight minutes until Floyd passes out.
On April 20, 2021, Chauvin was found guilty on all charges of Floyd’s murder during a historic trial. The 45-year-old former officer was found guilty of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter and now faces a maximum term of 75 years in prison.
The decision was hailed as “a step in the right direction” and led to widespread celebrations in US cities. All three policemen might apparently also face a third-degree murder prosecution.

George Floyd didn’t die because of fentanyl, that racist overdose theory was used to smear his name in court. He died because Derek Chauvin kept his knee on Floyd’s neck for nine and a half minutes. The Floyd family should sue Kanye just like Sandy Hook families sued Alex Jones.

Police claimed Floyd “physically resisted cops” while perhaps under the influence of drink or narcotics after they found him near his car. Social media videos of the event show Floyd writhing in agony and repeatedly telling Chauvin, “I can’t breathe,” while he knelt on his neck.
Near the area where Floyd’s hands were bound, the officer had his other knee on Floyd’s back. Before going limp and closing his eyes, Floyd is heard screaming, “Don’t murder me!” in the horrifying video.
