At the Paris Olympics 2024 women’s trap event final, Adriana Ruano Oliva made history with her extraordinary performance. By securing gold with a record-breaking final score of 45, she became Guatemalaโs first-ever Olympic gold medalist. Notably, Olivaโs triumph marks the first time a Guatemalan woman has claimed an Olympic medal.
Originally a gymnast, Ruano represented Guatemala at the 2010 Pan American Championships and the Central American and Caribbean Games. While training for the 2011 World Gymnastics Championships, a qualifier for the 2012 Summer Olympics, she experienced severe back pain. It was later discovered that she had six damaged vertebrae.
