French journalist Vanessa Dougnac is reportedly facing potential expulsion from India after receiving a notice from the Indian home ministry, as per AFP reports.

After working as a journalist for 22 years in India, Dougnac is said to have gotten a warning stating that her work was considered “inimical” to national interests, despite her having contributed to several French-language publications, including Le Point magazine.
According to AFP, the notice charged Vanessa Dougnac with participating in “malicious and critical” reporting, which might potentially cause disruption and disturb peace by presenting a biased depiction of India.

The alleged communication from the Indian authorities gives Dougnac until February 2 to contest the ministry’s decision to cancel her permanent residency. Dougnac’s reported coverage includes issues such as the Maoist Naxalite insurgency in rural parts of India. AFP quoted the journalist, denying all allegations and stating,
India is my home, a country which I deeply love and respect, and I have never engaged in any acts that are in any manner prejudicial to Indian interests.

Vanessa Dougnac is a French journalist. She has been in the news because she was asked to leave India over misleading reporting, which is damaging the national interest.
She was born and brought up in France. However, she is currently based in New Delhi, India, as she married an Indian citizen. She was a traveler when she first came to India in 1998.
Vanessa Dougnac has been doing journalism for 22 years. She worked as a journalist for Le Point, a French news magazine, covering South Asia. It is said that she has already conducted a study on Gujarat and the Ambanis. She was a part of the Press Corps for Indian Women.
According to a 2010 report, Dougnac said that because she was married to an Indian, she was not in need of a visa and that she possessed a person of Indian origin (PIO) card. However, in actuality, she was on a work visa, which was revoked in October 2022.
Since then, she has stopped reporting on India and has been covering stories mostly for the French newspaper Le Croix (The Cross), which is notorious for disseminating false information, from Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal.
