Dok Harris, Harris’s son, said his father died in the middle of the night. No reason was given for the death. Harris died two days before the 50th anniversary of the play that helped the Steelers go from being an average team to one of the best, and three days before the Steelers will retire his No. 32 jersey at halftime of a game against the Raiders in Las Vegas.
Harris ran for 12,120 yards and helped the Steelers win four Super Bowls in the 1970s. This was the start of a dynasty that started when Harris decided to keep running after Terry Bradshaw threw a last-second pass in a playoff game against the Raiders, who were based in Oakland at the time.
With 22 seconds left in the fourth quarter and Pittsburgh down 7-6 and facing a fourth-and-10 from their own 40-yard line, Bradshaw threw a long pass to running back French Fuqua. When Fuqua and Jack Tatum, a defensive back for Oakland, collided, the ball went to Harris.
Almost everyone else stopped, but Harris grabbed the ball inches above the ground near the Oakland 45. He then beat several defenders to give the Steelers their first playoff win in franchise history. Even though the Steelers lost to Miami in the AFC Championship the next week, they were on their way to becoming the best team of the 1970s and winning the Super Bowl in 1974, 1975, 1978, and 1979.
Franco Dokmanovich Harris, whose nickname is “Dok,” was born and raised in the Northside. His father, Franco Harris, was a running back for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Harris grew up on West North Avenue in the Mexican War Streets neighbourhood.
Franco Harris welcomed son Franco ‘Dok’ Harris with partner Dana Dokmanovich in 1979 and his full name is Franco Dokmanovich Harris Jr but he is referred to as ‘Dok’ with him aged 43 currently. It is not known if he is married or not.
He went to kindergarten at St. Peter’s and then to Sewickley Academy, where he played tennis and wrestling for the university team. Even though the university had a football team, he didn’t want to be the centre of attention on the field.
Harris went to Princeton University and got a degree in political science, with a focus on global economy. He then went to the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and Carnegie Mellon University to get his J.D. and M.B.A., respectively.
A School Celebrity For His Hosting Talent On School
He was like a celebrity at Princeton because he hosted shows on the school’s TV station. Harris was also an inventor. During his second year at CMU, he worked with neurosurgeons from Pittsburgh to make a device called NeuroLife Noninvasive Solutions that could be used to measure brain pressure.
Because he liked to come up with new ideas, he also won the Global Moot Corp. Competition in 2006. Part of the price was being able to ring the NASDAQ bell. In 2006, Carnegie Mellon University named him Entrepreneur of the Year, and the University of Pittsburgh gave him the CALI Leader for the Future Award in Business Planning and Entrepreneurship.
Harris worked in creation design at Shadyside-based start-up company SimpleMem Technologies. In 2008, he joined the family business, Super Bakery Inc., which sold high-quality baked goods. Harris got into politics in 2009, when he ran as an independent candidate for mayor of Pittsburgh. He got 25% of the vote and came in second place.
