Melissa Fernandez who is a football player herself from Argentina, plays for River Plate’s women’s team and comes from the same Argentine province of Chaco as Echeverri. Melissa in 2023 made her debut for the women’s reserve team, wore the number 3 jersey, and shared moments from the match on her Instagram account, which has over 112,000 followers. Claudio Echeverri was born in Resistencia, Chaco Province, and began his career at Deportivo Luján before trialing with River Plate at the end of 2016. He officially signed with River Plate the following year. In October 2022, he scored on his debut for River’s reserve team against Patronato’s reserves. By December that year, he signed his first professional contract with River, which reportedly included a $25 million release clause. On 11 October 2023, The Guardian named him among the best players worldwide born in 2006. Echeverri made his professional debut on 22 June 2023 at 17 years, 5 months, and 20 days old, coming on as a substitute against Instituto and providing an assist in River Plate’s 3–1 win.
On 25 January 2024, Echeverri agreed to join Manchester City on a four-and-a-half-year deal but remained on loan at River Plate until January 2025. He made his City debut on 17 May 2025 in the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace and his Premier League debut on 25 May 2025 against Fulham. He scored his first goal for Manchester City on 21 June 2025 during a 6–0 FIFA Club World Cup group stage win over Al Ain.
Known as a gifted playmaker, Echeverri earned the nickname “El Diablito” (little devil) in reference to Bolivian legend Marco Etcheverry, highlighting his dribbling, pace, and powerful shot. He has cited Lionel Messi and former River player Juan Fernando Quintero as idols. Unlike Messi, Echeverri is right-footed, though they share a similar height and low-centre-of-gravity dribbling style.
