Filip Jorgensen bio
Filip Jorgensen is a professional footballer who was born on April 16, 2002, in Lomma, Sweden. Despite being born in Sweden, Filip was born to a Danish father and Swedish mother. As a result, he currently plays as a Denmark youth international. He last played as a goalkeeper for La Liga club Villarreal and is now set to joined Premier league side Chelsea, for the new 2024/25 season.
While his salary at Chelsea isn’t known, Jorgensen’s weekly salary at Villarreal was €40,000 (£34,000).

Playing style
Aside from his goalkeeping skills, Jorgensen also has a top-class ball-playing skills. This would make him a perfect fit for Chelsea, considering their new manager Enzo Maresca’s possession-based style of play. Another important skill that Jorgensen has is his lack of command over the penalty area. Despite his key strengths, Jorgensen is still very young and does tend to struggle from set pieces and crossings into the box. During his time at Villarreal, he stopped just 5.2% of crosses that came into the box.
Career and stats
Jorgensen joined the Villarreal youth academy in 2017, after previously representing clubs like Mallorca, AD Penya Arrabal, Santa Catalina Atlético, Malmö FF, and GIF Nike Lomma. Jorgensen eventually made his senior debut on October 18, 2020, and signed a contract with the club until 2025. He then made his first team debut the following year on December 15, coming on as a second-half substitute for Gerónimo Rulli during a 7–1 away win over Atlético Sanluqueño CF. He then made his professional debut with the B-side on August 14, 2022, during a 2–0 Segunda División away win over Racing de Santander.
Jorgensen finally made his La Liga debut on January 30, 2023 during a 1–0 home loss against Rayo Vallecano. He gained prominence in the 2023–24 season after earning the most saves in La Liga in 143 occasions. He conceded just 65 goals and kept six clean sheets during the 2023/24 season. The 22-year-old also played a vital role for Villareal with his passing range throughout the 2023/24 campaign. He completed over 1,000 passes and averaged 44.7 successful passes per 90 minutes.
Following an excellent and promising debut campaign, Filip Jorgensen has now decided to join the Premier League with Chelsea on a seven-year €24.5 million deal. On the international stage, Jorgensen has previously represented Sweden at the under-16 and under-17 levels. However, he switched his allegiance to Denmark in May 2021, and now playing for the country’s under-21 side.
Contract and salary
Filip Jorgensen signed with Chelsea on a £20.7 million (€24.5 million) deal according to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano. Jorgensen secured a seven-year contract deal, which means that he will stay at the club up until 2031. While his salary remains yet to be disclosed, he was previously earning €2,080,000 per season or €40,000 per week.
Comparisons
Filip Jorgensen has often drawn comparisons to Manchester City shot-stopper Ederson, particularly due to his passing range and ability. Chelsea are currently in need of a ball-playing goalkeeper like Jorgensen, and he could possibly prove to be god fit. Aside from comparisons to Ederson, his one-handed saves have also drawn comparisons to former Manchester United star David De Gea.
