On February 6, the body of Felicia LoAlbo-Melendez, an 11-year-old girl from New Jersey, was found in the bathroom of her school, know about her parents and family
She had taken her own life.
This happened just a few days after her father, Alexis Melendez, died of pancreatic cancer. Elaina LoAlbo, Felicia’s mother, said that Felicia had sent an email to the school about how her friends were picking on her. But no one replied to her emails.

Another student found Felicia unresponsive in a toilet cubicle at F.W. Holbein School in Mount Holly around 1 p.m., according to a report. She was taken to a local hospital and then transferred to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where doctors pronounced her dead on February 8th.

The Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office did an autopsy and found that Felicia LoAlbo killed herself. The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office looked into the case and found that Felicia was alone in the bathroom when the terrible thing happened.
Felicia LoAlbo’s mother accused the school administration of not reading email of Felicia LoAlbo on being bullied. She suggested that the school start a “trauma club” where students could talk about things that make them feel stressed in a safe place. Felicia wrote on Facebook a month before she died, “I have heard stories from my friends and other people about things that have happened to them, and I think this would be a great thing.”
Mother shares voice message and memories of her daughter
In a tribute to her daughter on February 24, Felicia LoAlbo’s mother stated, “Felicia was a bright light who touched so many people – she was an old soul, wise beyond her short 11 years. Unfortunately, Felicia’s happy-go-lucky attitude was not enough to battle the relentless bullying she was fighting within the walls of our school.” She also shared a voice message Felicia left in 2021, where she said, “Say hello to future Mom, future Dad…future everyone. Never, never, never be bad, never give up on your friends, never, ever… be a bully.”

Seth Turner, whose daughter was close friends with Felicia LoAlbo, apologised to the school board on March 15 for not telling any teachers or staff that other students in Felicia’s class were bullying her. “While no response to the death of an 11-year-old girl can ever be truly adequate, our response to this tragedy so far has been pathetic. Felicia deserves better. She deserves a full investigation, she deserves a full accounting and she deserves the truth – and I hope that we can give it to her,” he said.
Felicia’s mother initiated a Change.org petition to make public the surveillance videos from around the bathroom where Felicia was found.
