The 35-year-old Ricardo Escobar Cardona, a male relative, was allegedly murdered by the 37-year-old former anchor after a disagreement that took place at a residence in the 6600 block of Spurs Nation Drive, Corpus Christi, at around midnight on July 3, 2023.
Jonathan Solarte allegedly shot Cardona. As soon as they arrived on the scene, officers from the Corpus Christi Police Department promptly arrested Solarte. Cardona was shot in the left side of his chest, sent to the Bay Area Hospital, and later died from his injuries. After being taken into custody, Solarte was given a murder charge.
Eyewitnesses have more details on what happened before Johnathan Solarte is accused of committing the crime
According to the New York Post, Christian Escobar, a witness who was standing outside the home where the incident occurred, informed the authorities that Ricardo Escobar Cardona had been calmly permitted inside the residence. Another witness stated that before things became heated, Marthan Sanchez, Solarte, and Cardona were conversing. She claims that as she tried to diffuse the argument, Cardona was knocked to the ground and fell as a result of hearing a gunshot. She is quoted in the article as saying:
“She stated that she did not see what exactly happened when the gun went off.”
When the police arrived, they confronted Johnathan Solarte. The police were flagged down by him. According to a police officer who arrived on the scene and made a statement:
I called out to Jonathan and he stated that I needed to go inside to help someone. I asked him who the shooter was and he stated he was the shooter.”
According to KRIS 6, Jonathan Solarte spoke with the police and told them what follows:
[He] trying to defend himself and that he was struggling with Ricardo at the time he was shot.”
The further was stated:
Jonathan also stated that Ricardo barged into his home and began to threaten him.”
Following a further investigation by the Corpus Christi Police Department, Solarte was detained and charged with murder. On July 5, he was released after paying a $300,000 bond. He was first imprisoned in the Nueces County Jail.
