Angel Webb, formerly a standout basketball player herself, made a name for herself at UMBC during the 1980s and 1990s. A star player, Webb accumulated an impressive 1390 points and 932 rebounds, even venturing to play professionally in Europe for a year.

It was Webb’s influence that ignited Reese’s passion for the game. Reflecting on her early exposure to basketball, Reese shared, “I used to go to my mom’s games when I was younger. She used to play in a little league, and I used to always go to watch her games on Sundays.”

Angel Webb knows a thing or two about basketball and was a star player for UMBC in the late 80s and early 90s, scoring 1,390 points and grabbing 932 rebounds in her career. She also played in Luxembourg for a year before returning to the US to start a family.

Webb shared her passion and skills for basketball with her children, Angel and Julian, who both showed early signs of talent and potential and coached them in youth leagues and AAU teams, teaching them the fundamentals and instilling in them a work ethic and a competitive spirit.

Reese’s father, Michael Reese, with whom she does not have a close relationship, played basketball for Boston College and Loyola (Maryland) before embarking on a professional career in Luxembourg, Cyprus, Austria and Portugal and Reese was raised by her mother and maternal grandparents, Curtis and Barbara Webb.

The recent spotlight on Webb stems from Reese’s unexpected absence from the LSU basketball team for one and a half games. This absence has led to a publicized online clash between Webb and Kia Brooks, Flau’jae Johnson’s mother.

The exchange began with a veiled message from Webb on Instagram, addressing those who send grammatically erroneous text messages.

The exchange took a personal turn when Brooks claimed, “You definitely know about grammar errors when your daughter got a 2.0 or less GPA,” shedding light on academic matters.

The drama has spilled over to social media, painting a turbulent picture of the LSU women’s basketball program. Former player Alexis Morris and other alumni have weighed in on the controversy, adding another layer of complexity to the unfolding narrative.

Coach Kim Mulkey’s cryptic comments about Reese undergoing an “attitude adjustment” only added fuel to the speculation. LSU, coming off a historic 2022/23 season with a national championship, has faced early-season struggles, prompting questions about Reese’s role and the team’s overall performance.
