His recent arrest for impersonating AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is not the first time as he has been arrested several times for impersonating other key personalities from the state.

Nagaraju who hails from Srikakulam district, previously represented Andhra Pradesh in Ranji Trophy matches between 2014 and 2016. In fact, he was also once a part of the SunRisers Hyderabad team in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Arrested for impersonating AP CM to dupe Mumbai-based company MD

Just a few days back on Monday, March 13, 2023, Budumuru Nagaraju was arrested by the Mumbai cyber police for allegedly posing as Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, and also for duping an electronic shop chain.

According to the report, the former Ranji called up the MD of the chain, asking for a ₹12 lakh sponsorship for budding cricketer Ricky Bhui. Nagaraju allegedly used the a picture of the CM as his display picture on his mobile.

He asked for the sponsorship amount to be arranged in the name of the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Balsing Rajput, the DCP (Mumbai-Cyber), stated that the ex-Ranji player currently has at least 30 FIRs against him. And all of these FIRs are for crimes that he committed using a similar mode of operation.

Last year in March, Hyderabad police arrested Budumuru Nagaraju for posing as Bandari Tirupathi, personal secretary to KT Rama Rao and duping a total of nine companies for nearly ₹40 lakh. Budumuru allegedly told companies that it for the swearing-in ceremony of KT Rama Rao as CM of Telangana.

Hyderabad Police reported that the ex-Ranji player allegedly sought money from various corporate companies, corporate hospitals, realtors, and educational institutions. Budumuru took the excuse of arranging a programme at LB stadium for the swearing-in ceremony.

Police claimed that Budumuru got habituated to a lavish lifestyle after securing various sponsorships. And that since he was no longer an active player, he started duping corporate firms to continue his luxurious life.

Arrested for impersonating KT Rama Rao’s personal assistant to dupe pharmaceutical company

Back in November 2020, the North Zone Police Task Force arrested Budumuru Nagaraju for allegedly posing as Tirupathi Reddy, PA to KT Rama Rao, the then Minister of IT E&C, MA&UD, and for extracting money from a pharmaceutical company.

According to police reports, Budumuru threatened the company saying that the Pollution Control board would issue a closure notice to their factory. He demanded a huge sum of ₹15 lakh in order to resolve the issue.

Back in February 2020, police arrested Budumuru Nagaraju for posing as Tirupathi Reddy, Personal Assistant to then IT Minister KT Rama Rao, and for duping the CMD of a private firm of ₹3.3 lakh.

According to the police, Budumuru told the businessman that Mr Nagaraju Budumuru is a cricket player from Andhra Pradesh who got selected to represent India at the Under 25 World Cup, set to take place in England, and also a part of the SunRisers Hyderabad IPL team. Budumuru took this excuse to request sponsorship money for his cricket kit and the tour.

Arrested for impersonating BCCI chief selector MSK Prasad to dupe people

In May 2019, police arrested Budumuru Nagaraju for impersonating the then BCCI chief selector MSK Prasad’s voice and duping people. The Vijayawada police made the arrest after a complaint from the victim stating that Budumuru had allegedly taken money from the victim with the promise to build a cricket academy in Visakhapatnam.

The police reported that Nagaraju had duped a person called N Gopal back in 2018. Budumuru impersonating MSK Prasad claimed that he would establish a Dhoni Cricket Academy in Visakhapatnam.

He also duped another person of ₹2.88 lakh by posing as MSK Prasad and claiming to represent Kolkata Knight Riders. In another incident, Nagaraju collected ₹3.88 lakh from Ramakrishna Housing Private Limited using the former India wicketkeeper’s name.
