Vikash Yadav was a former Indian government employee who was born in Haryana’s Pranpura. He was previously an employed with the India’s Cabinet Secretariat, which includes India’s spy agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW). According to the indictment, Yadav also worked as a ‘senior field officer’ overseeing ‘security management and intelligence’. He also previously served in the Central Reserve Police Force, with his last rank as an Assistant Commandant over a 135-man company. According to reports, Yadav has undergone various trainings including counterintelligence, battlecraft, weapons and paratrooper training.

The US Justice Department has reportedly accused Vikash Yadav of attempting to assassinate Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. According to reports, the department has issued:
a federal arrest warrant after he was charged with murder-for-hire, conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, and money laundering conspiracy.”
The prosecutors announced the filing during an unsealing in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York. The newly released indictment also provides details about how Yadav planned and attempted to assassinate Pannun back in May 2023. According to it, Yadav had reportedly recruited Indian national Nikhil Gupta to orchestrate the assassination attempt. Under Yadav’s directions, Gupta contacted an individual to hire a hitman for murdering Pannun in New York.
Just one month later, Yadav provided Gupta with further information about Pannun’s personal life and his day-to-day activities. Around June 20, 2023, Yadav last instructed Gupta to carry out the plan, following which Gupta reached out to the man to contact the hitman. However, the plot eventually failed as Gupta, arrested in the Czech Republic.
